Pendant Lights 

Renovation update: I have purchased two Restoration Hardware pendant lights to hang over the breakfast bar. I have chosen the Classic Clemson Pendant which I think will tie into the theme of the house. I'm quite sure there is no way you can do a reasonable renovation without set backs or something going wrong, my dilemma..... a concrete ceiling. What does that mean? Well it means that all lighting has to be determined when the house is built so that wiring can be installed when the concrete ceiling is poured, therefore adding any lighting in the future requires either chiselling into the concrete and then plastering over the top or creating a false ceiling so that the wiring is hidden.
The decision I have made is to install a small decorative false ceiling to hide the wires and still have my beloved pendant lights!

Not only do these pendant lights look fabulous but they also have purpose for us as there is currently no lighting over the breakfast bar. We often sit and have dinner at the breakfast bar or use it for entertaining so these lights will really add as a nice feature to the room.

Pendant lighting is becoming more and more popular in Australia as we gravitate towards the American  New England/Hampton's look where this style of lighting is most common. I have found an Australian website which sells similar lights called Schots lighting (www.schots.com.au) which is located in Melbourne. They have a reasonable selection of pendant lights.

I'm looking forward to having these lights installed and will post a before and after.

I really love the character of French bistro chairs especially as bar stools. In Australia they seem to be very expensive and hard to find find so I expanded my search yet again to America and of course I found a few that I am in love with.

The Black Door

  The Black Door

It has been far too long between posts and I will endeavour not to leave it as long as it has been again.  My husband and I have decided to do some cosmetic renovations to our home and I thought I would start our renovation journey with the front door. I plan on documenting the process via this blog showing our/my ideas and before and after shots of the project. 

So I have decided to begin at the front door. Currently our front door is rather dated salmon/ beige glass and wood door with matching filigree fly screen. It's time to update! I have decided that a black high gloss solid front door is the way to go. I like the idea of glass inserts in the door as it allows light to stream into the hall and can look slightly more friendly then a solid door, however considering you can see into our living from the street front a solid door will give us more privacy. Our windows are set in black frames thus the black door will match in with the windows. I have the option to lose the fly wire screen door due to the windows adjacent to the front door. 

Ok, now that I have justified my decision on a solid high gloss front door I will show you some  black entrance doors which have lead to my final decision! 

The above door is the final choice for our front door!

Morgan Harrison Home 

I came across Morgan Harrison Design website and I would like to share their beautiful designs with you. Traditional meets modern in a wash of calm tones creating a  classic style using a mix of textures and finishes of the highest standard. This is my sort of style its conservative brought to the 21st century,  there is no particular theme to her design which is also something I admire and I'm trying to replicate in my own home.
